Product Update: Improved OAuth Connector for Uphold

If you use Uphold to hold or trade crypto, connecting it to a portfolio tracker hasn’t always been the smoothest experience.  That’s why Merlin has just released an improved OAuth connector for Uphold, designed to make the connection process faster, clearer, and far less frustrating for users.

While the connector still uses OAuth for security, the flow itself has been streamlined significantly, cutting down unnecessary steps and reducing setup issues that users previously encountered.

What’s Changed With the New OAuth Connector

The updated Uphold connector still uses OAuth, but the flow is now far more efficient and user friendly.

Here’s what users will notice immediately:

  • Fewer steps during authorization

  • Clearer prompts throughout the process

  • Less back-and-forth between screens

  • Faster completion from start to finish

In most cases, users can now connect Uphold and see their assets syncing within minutes.

Secure by Design, Read-Only by Default

Even with the simplified flow, security remains unchanged.

The Uphold OAuth connection is:

  • Read-only

  • Unable to move funds

  • Unable to place trades

  • Unable to withdraw assets

Merlin can only access balance and transaction data for tracking and analytics purposes. Your assets remain fully controlled by you inside Uphold at all times.

This same security standard applies across all Merlin exchange and wallet connections.

Why This Update Matters for Uphold Users

For many users, Uphold is a core exchange, especially for long-term holdings.

With the improved OAuth connector, Uphold users can now:

  • View Uphold assets alongside other exchanges and wallets

  • Track accurate totals in one unified dashboard

  • Monitor gains, losses, and cost basis

  • Build structured exit strategies

  • Receive alerts as prices approach target levels

The biggest difference is that getting started no longer feels like a hurdle.

Should Existing Users Reconnect?

Yes. If you already had Uphold connected in the past, it’s recommended that you reconnect using the updated OAuth flow.

Reconnecting helps ensure:

  • Better reliability

  • Improved sync behavior

  • Fewer connection-related issues going forward

New users connecting Uphold for the first time will automatically use the improved flow.

How to Connect Uphold to Merlin

To connect Uphold using the updated OAuth connector, go to:

Merlin → Add Assets → Connect Wallet/Exchange → Uphold

From there, Merlin guides you step by step through the authorization process so you always know what’s happening and what to expect next.

Built to Reduce Friction, Not Add It

At its core, this update reflects Merlin’s broader goal: making crypto portfolio tracking simpler without compromising security.

You shouldn’t need to wrestle with setup just to understand where you stand. The improved Uphold OAuth connector removes friction, adds clarity, and helps you get to what actually matters—your strategy.

If you’re an Uphold user, this update was built with your experience in mind.
